Hello, all ...
Right now, i'm wondering what deception really is i.e. what can be considered true deception, vs. just not being particularly forthcoming with all information available. All aspiring megalomaniacs (and anyone who wishes not to be subjugated under them) need to know this, I think ... so i'd like to discuss it. Anyone interested?
Regards,
John

Re: Deception
Wed, January 26, 2005 - 1:36 AMDeception is pretty much ingrained into the Amerikan culture for all intents and purposes. I don't think telling lies to protect personal information or loved ones is necessarily strong enough to qualify.
I think to truly deceive there has to be some pre-meditation involved although not in every case. -

... what i'm really after is the "techniques of deception" analog of this:
www.vandruff.com/art_converse.html
... which describes many techniques used when having verbal exchanges with others in order to come out ahead, put the other party on the defensive, make them look bad, etc. I want to study common (and even not-so-common, if I can arrange it) ways that people deceive one another, so that I may recognize some of the techniques when I see them and either defend against them or choose not to play the game.
I'm not really sure where such information would be documented, but I am anxious to find out and learn.
